The axiom "a rising tide lifts all boats" underscores a fundamental truth about collective progress in an area. When conditions or outputs improve for one, they can improve for all. This principle is particularly relevant for cities or organizations striving to boost or better understand employee contribution and performance as well as foster sustainable growth.
This past week I had the opportunity to attend the ICMA (International City/County Management Association) conference with fellow City Managers and leaders from across the country and world. This gathering was not just an annual event but a vibrant exchange of ideas, best practices, and inspiring success stories from various cities. As I engaged with other leaders in management, I couldn’t help but feel optimistic about the potential impact their experiences could have on our own city.
During the conference, I was honored to give a speech on Creating a Culture of Social Well-Being, showcasing the unique projects we’ve implemented in our city. I highlighted our culture development programs, our usage of statistical information, as well as our employee recognition program and how these things have contributed to our success. Sharing our experiences was not only a moment of pride and recognition of the amazing work our team is doing, but also a chance to inspire others.
